HUSD Return to School

August 13, 2021

Dear Holtville Unified School District Families and Staff,

Holtville Unified School District will return to full time in-person instruction for all students on August 23, 2021. Currently, HUSD is offering on-line registration to families of returning students in grades 1 - 12. Please refer to your school site for information regarding school registration and your ParentVUE account.

In accordance with California Department of Education guidance, distance learning is no longer an option for students for the 2021-22 school year. While HUSD welcomes and expects all students to return to in-person instruction, parents and guardians do have the option of enrolling their children in the district Independent Study program. The Independent Study program will be offered for students who are independent learners and requires parent involvement. For those interested, please read the attached information regarding independent study and contact Mitchell Drye, Principal at (760) 356-5718 or mdrye@husd.net.

In accordance with California Department of Public Health COVID-19 Public Health Guidance for K-12 Schools for the 2021-22 School Year, currently, masks for all students and staff are mandated by the State of California indoors. Masks are optional in outdoor settings. In addition, HUSD will continue with vigorous cleaning and sanitation protocols, screening protocols, physical distancing (where possible), HVAC ventilation, and barriers for staff and students. Screening protocols will include a simplified daily COVID-19 symptom questionnaire for students and staff.

On Thursday, August 12, 2021, Holtville Unified School Board issued a directive to the Superintendent by a majority vote that: 1. HUSD recognizes the mask mandate issued by the State of California, 2. HUSD recognizes that the State of California has not provided guidance on the enforcement of the mandate, and 3. Violation of the mask mandate shall not be a basis for punishment of HUSD students (for example, no suspensions, no detentions, no academic retaliation, no expulsions, and no harassment). In addition, no HUSD student wearing a mask shall be punished, harassed, or discriminated against.
